Is There a Perfect Neighborhood?

By Darrell Ritchie

When looking for a place to live, finding the perfect house is obviously the most important. Running a close second, however, is the neighborhood where that house is located. Not all neighborhoods or neighbors are created equal, and you may conceivably find yourself in an ideal house yet still perfectly miserable due to the neighbors and conditions you have inherited.

So how do you determine if the neighborhood you are buying into is sound?

Or will it cause your property values to go down like the Titanic two years after you’ve moved in? Always make your home choice with equal consideration given to the neighborhood you will soon be a part of.

First thing to do is to create your dream neighborhood by identifying those aspects that are important to you. Do you want to live in a historic area or a more modern neighborhood? Do you want to be within walking distance of restaurants or stores or do you mind driving a few minutes? Are you more interested in an exciting local area or a more sedate family oriented area? Knowing your needs ahead of time will help narrow down the area where you want to look.

What public services are offered? Many towns and cities are cutting back on the services they offer, due mainly to the decrease in property taxes collected. The end result is a notable lack of area libraries, parks, and police presence. You need to drive through a potential neighborhood and look for any signs that the city is in financial trouble. Have the streets been recently cleaned? Are the parks in good condition? Look at the local library and see if they offer decent hours and selection.

What about the schools? Do your homework and find out how the area schools stack up and rate. Websites such as http://Greatschools.org can be an invaluable resource, and you can also talk to other people in the area and get their opinions of the educational opportunities in the area you are looking at.

Count the “For Sale” signs. If there are a lot in a given area, there is probably a reason. If you are looking in a subdivision, look and see if there are a lot of homes for rent, as this may be a troubling signal.

Collect sales and rental information. If you’re buying, pick up sales fliers from all homes for sale in the neighborhood you are looking in. This will allow you to establish a range of prices for similar homes, eliminating what you can’t afford, and setting realistic goals for what you can.

Also, look for other clues by visiting the area at various times of the day and night. Do you feel safe walking through the neighborhood? Is there the chance of loud noise or music from nearby nightclubs? Or highways? Or worse yet, airports? Our own home turned out to be on final approach for the local county airport, fortunately we were far enough away that we didn’t hear the approaching aircraft that often.

Driving through the area after normal work hours will also tell you how people maintain their property after work, or if there are a lot of children out playing in the streets after dark. It will also make you aware of any suspicious or dangerous activity.

Don’t be afraid to talk to your potential neighbors. People who live in a good neighborhood will not hesitate to brag on it, and people who live in a bad area will be just as eager to warn you off. Having great neighbors can make or break a neighborhood. Our last home started out great, on a nice little cul de sac, with decent neighbors. A couple of nasty divorces, a foreclosure, and one neighbor who insists on cleaning his business equipment on his lawn (complete with all of his illegal immigrant staff) slowly but surely made it a much less than desirable place to hang your hat. Remember, you can make all kinds of positive changes to your home, but it is virtually impossible to make any kind of change to your neighbors. Take the time to make sure you aren’t going to end up in a depressing situation.

So remember to do your basic research, then go the extra mile. You’ll be very glad you did.

Resinuous Flooring - Generalities to Choose Wisely

By Christopher Granger

The resinous smoothing is like a pigmented material 2 to 3 mm thick (versus 5 cm thick cement smoothing) that can be placed over any existing surface without lifting the current floor. The best part is, it won´t even generate debris and the work is quick. You will notice how the placement appears to be very easy and fast. We can say that it is basically a smoothing improved option of the known cement.

The resin-epoxy is suitable for floors, walls, stairs, bathrooms, patios, countertops, without having to lift or remove ceramic tile, marble, etc.. It also has a wide range of colors, can be used both indoors and outdoors and does not require it does not collapse together like cement. It can even be maintained with a damp cloth.

Advantages

Several benefits and advantages are linked to resinous flooring. It offers pretty much the same finish and more variety of colors than the cement. It can be placed without raising the floor above. The fast installations, along with its impermeability, are top features. You will be delighted by these floors.

Disadvantages

It must address the technical details. The use should be skilled labor. It may appear hard at times, however, if you get the proper tutorials and guidelines, everything will be fine. However, you can also find technical help to avoid resin mistakes. It is up to you!

Some Decoration Ideas

If you wish to renew the look of your office, business, house or any particular room, without much effort and very quickly, resin is the best option. The resin is placed over any existing floor, using a bulldozer paste to cover any imperfections or board (such as when applied to ceramics). In a few hours- if free of dust and dirt- you can give a new face to the floor of any room, bathroom or kitchen.

Other alternatives

You may also use this on walls. Renewing old bathroom tiles modern surface and leaving a neat, variety of colors that comes to your mind. Because it is washable, resin is an ideal choice for high-use areas in kitchens and bathrooms and, of course, children's rooms. For instance, your restaurant can be fully enhanced in no time!

The smoothing styles differ, but you can apply it onto a smooth floor. However, to achieve a more interesting or rustic settings you can perform it together with the design you want. The seals may be metal, wood or you can just leave a break between panels. An interesting option is to place resinous flooring in decking, hiding or mosaic tiles worn ugly. The outdoor epoxy has a very good performance. You may be advised to always use light colors. You can always try non slip floors, especially close to a swimming pool. This is a great option to prevent accidents. For a modern look, consider painting the baseboards floors, the same color as the wall! You can definitely create an outstanding image. Don’t limit yourself and start getting benefits from the many amazing features of resinous flooring.
